Welcome to another Saturday Strategy!

Today I want to talk to you about an extremely important part of my morning routine and something you should NEVER skip...

BREAKFAST!

The word "Break fast" literally means to "break the fast". You've been sleeping hopefully for at least the last 8 hours and your body is starving for food. You've been recovering and you're hormones have adjusted to make sure that you can rest properly. Now it's time to get your hormones working toward giving you plenty of healthy energy, and having your metabolism fire!

The typical American breakfast is so commercialized with sugar-coated cereals and other processed foods, it's not wonder why obesity is at an all-time high...

Of course, you all know that I love to start my morning off with a big glass of Green Juice! Starting my day by feeding my body with all those incredible phyto-nutrients is something I can not go without.

That being said, there is something I also eat every morning that may shock you. I'll talk a little more about that, but first, let me give you the ingredients for this week's Break The Fast Green Juice.

Now, I told you that I don't just drink green juice in the morning for breakfast. I also eat something that my body happens to respond very well to. This may not work for everyone, and as always, I suggest you eat foods that work with your specific body type.

This mystery food I'm talking about has been the source of controversy for years. But I'm here to tell you that this food, when eaten in the right portions, is actually beneficial for your cholesterol, can help fight against certain cancers, is one of the best sources of healthy fat, will give you long-lasting energy, and help you lose weight! What is this food???

IT'S EGGS!

I know that I may have lost some of you here, but please, give them a chance. They are absolutely incredible if they work with your dietary preferences. They don't work for everyone, but for me, they are incredible. They've gotten kind of a bad rap, which I don't think is deserving.

Eggs contain choline, which studies have shown can help fight against breast cancer. They also contain a ton of Omega-3 fatty acids, helping satisfy your hunger, curb cravings, and feed your brain!

Moreover, studies show that eggs are more beneficial to the cholesterol in your body, rather than adding cholesterol to one's diet. Now, this is when eaten in the proper portions. Everyone is different and everyone's bodies respond differently. Make sure you consult a doctor before making any major changes to your diet.

A research from Louisiana State University concluded that the egg breakfast enhances weight loss. The inclusion of eggs in a weight management program may offer a nutritious supplement to enhance weight loss.

Okay, now that you've let me babble on about breakfast, let's get to who won the juicer!

The bottom line is that you are juicing the wrong way. I don't want you to worry about this. I made this very same mistake when I started my juicing journey. Juicing takes practice and no one becomes a pro overnight. Now let's get to the problem so I can show you the solution.

When it comes to juicing for weight-loss, there is indeed a right way and a wrong way. When your main objective is fat-loss, you want to avoid sugar-containing fruits and vegetables. Yes, there are high-sugar veggies, such as beets and carrots. Why is this bad? The simple answer: because extra sugar gets stored as fat.

Here's a little science on fat storage and sugar consumption for you:

Sugar consumption causes a spike in blood sugar levels inside the body
Your pancreas secretes insulin as a response
The insulin pulls the sugar (which is now glucose) out of your blood and takes it to your cells
Your body can only handle a certain amount of glucose
Once the limit is reached, any excess is stored as body fat
As higher insulin levels are needed, your body creates an inflammation response
This hinders other body functions, like fat burning (this means stalled weight loss or even weight gain)
So to some it all up...Too much sugar = too much insulin = body fat storage

Here's another reason why juicing is stalling your weight loss.

For this answer, you must first understand a little science behind hormones and your metabolism.

Two hormones play a huge role in hunger, fat storage and metabolism. Those are ghrelin and leptin. Both hormones respond to how well-fed you are.

Ghrelin tells the body that it is hungry.
Leptin tells the brain that the body has had enough to eat, producing a feeling of satiety.
Our bodies are stubborn. They do not like change; it's a survival thing. When we diet, our bodies rebel by revving up our appetite hormones. When we consistently take in less energy, our bodies respond by making us hungrier and decreasing our metabolic (burn) rate.

Anyone who has dieted knows that it is difficult to lose weight when you are hungry and when your metabolism isn't burning efficiently. Unfortunately, many people diet too hard and then succumb to their hunger pangs (often times bingeing or yo-yo-dieting).

What is the best way to prevent this? Breaks in juice fasting as well as planned and regular re-feeds should be in place. This affects leptin positively and allows for maintenance of muscle and strength.

For this Saturday Strategy, we are making a meal that you'll love using raw foods. The raw food diet has been gaining popularity in media. The U.S. News and World Report rank raw food diet as the second most effective diet for losing weight.

Eating raw food has it's nutritional perks. Not only will preparing raw foods cut back on your light bill, you will be able to absorb more of the nutrients in the foods that you're eating. Most of what you will be eating will be rich in vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients because there's no heating involved. Cooking foods above 115 to 118 degrees Fahrenheit destroys the enzymes that are essential for proper digestion and absorption.

Raw food contains less trans fat, saturated fat, and also promotes a low sodium and sugar intake which decreases cholesterol level and chances of heart disease. Raw diet food is also rich in antioxidants which help prevent premature aging. Antioxidants are substances that help prevent the damaging effects of oxidation on cells throughout our body.

Zucchini
Zucchini is slightly bitter in taste, but is rich in magnesium. The mineral magnesium and calcium works in unison to form healthy bones. Americans tend to have low levels of magnesium. Get some zucchini today!

Summer Squash
Summer squash is an excellent source of antioxidant with its high source of Beta-Carotene. It has other antioxidant nutrients including the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin which protect the eyes.

Macadenia Nuts
Macadamia nuts are 100% cholesterol free. Not only are these nuts very tasty, they are high in vitamins, minerals, and good monounsaturated fat, which can lower cholesterol.

Cashew Nuts
Cashews are packed with soluble fiber which can help lower bad cholesterol (LDL). Also, monounsaturated fatty acids like Oleic and Palmitoleic Acids may decrease the risk of heart disease.

Pine Nuts
Pine Nuts is an excellent source of energy, and contain heart-friendly mono-saturated fats. It also contains Pinoleic Acid that makes you feel full faster which aids in weight loss.

Garlic
Garlic lowers blood sugar, has detoxification properties, and strengths the immune system. It is known to be anticancer, antibacterial and anti-fungal.

Lemons
Lemon is a rich of Vitamin C that helps our immue system. It also stimulate your liver and helps flush out toxins, and have alkalizing properties that keep your pH balance.

There is no doubt that raw food diet is beneficial to good health and weight loss. Some people find it hard to transition from cooked to raw foods.

For this Saturday Strategy, we'll be discovering a lot about one of our favorite herb, Peppermint. Peppermint has been used in ancient Europe, Egypt and Rome thousands of years ago. Traces of dried leaves were even found in Egyptian pyramids dating back to 1,000 B.C. Because of its alluring smell and indulging taste, this herb was incorporated from herbal tea and pastries to massage oils and bath soaps.

Furthermore, this powerful herb have health benefits that we can take note of.

1. Aromatherapy

Peppermint oil is cooling and energizing. Add a few drops to your bath, or dap a few drops directly on your body then get into the tub, for near-instant stress relief. You can also put the oil into a burner for a stress-relieving aroma.

2. Increase mental cognition

The aroma of peppermint has been shown to enhance memory and increase alertness.

3. Reduce caloric consumption

The scent of peppermint affected the appetite of study participants in a 2007 study by Wheeling Jesuit University. When inhaling the peppermint scent every two hours, participants reported feeling significantly less hungry and that they ate 1,800 fewer calories than normal. The researchers noted that peppermint scent can also reduce cravings and can reduce the intake of fat and sugar.

4. Decrease digestive inflammation

Peppermint has been found to ease symptoms associated with indigestion in many cases. It has a calming effect on the stomach muscles and creates better bile flow. When you eat peppermint or drink it in tea form, food moves more quickly through your stomach.

5. Gives an energy boost

One of peppermint's most important benefits is that the strong smell of peppermint stimulates our senses. It enhances the focus of our thoughts and brain and can provide clarity to our thinking

6. Get rid of headaches

Applying peppermint oil onto the forehead has been found to be effective in the treatment of tension headache. An article in American Family Physician quotes two trials that demonstrated the efficacy of peppermint oil for relieving the symptoms of tension headache. In fact, one of them found peppermint oil to be as effective as acetaminophen (Tylenol, paracetamol).

7. Alleviates Asthma Symptoms

A 2001 preclinical study found that extracts of the leaves of peppermint inhibit histamine release indicating it may be clinically effective in alleviating the nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Aside from Peppermint, what do we have for this week's recipe?

Fennel

Fennel contains Folate, that is necessary for the reduction of homocysteine. High homocysteine levels are associated to heart attack and stroke since it directly targets blood vessels (WH Foods). Folate is also important for pregnant women because it prevents birth defects in unborn babies.

Beets

Beets are one of the world's healthiest foods. With abundant and unique sources of phytonutrients like betalains and vulgaxanthins, beets offer more than a purple color. These phytonutrients promote antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory properties, and detoxifying properties. Beets are especially important in Phase II of the detoxification step.

Cucumbers

Due to its low calorie and high water content, cucumber is an ideal diet for people who are looking for weight loss. The high water content and dietary fiber in cucumbers are very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system, aiding digestion.

Cucumber
Cucumber has abundant amount of water. It composed of about 95% water, and also contains a very important mineral called Silica that is important for connective tissue to properly function. It is great from the skin and hair because it stimulates the production of collagen. A slice of cucumber can help reduce puffy eyes, skin irritations, and even sunburns.

Lemons
Lemons contain very high amounts of Vitamin C to boost your immune system. Its Vitamin C component also helps decrease wrinkles, and blemishes helping to clear the skin as well. It is also helps in flushing out toxins out of the body, and in neutralizing free radicals associated with cellular damage, and aging.

Carrots

Celery

The anti-aging market today is expanding to meet diverse consumer concerns. Wrinkles are no longer considered the only sign of aging. Age spots, hyperpigmentation, dry skin, uneven skin tone, dark under eye circles and even hair damage are aging concerns across the world. Spending on anti-aging products is expected to reach $291.9 billion by 2015, according to a Global Industry Analysts report.

Furthermore, the large percentage of "Baby boomers" and even the younger generations are frantic in finding ways to age gracefully. They even seek products without considering the price, just to address their concerns. Though these skin-care products are made with innovative research and expertise, people are missing something. They forget to address their internal health first, so that it can transcend on the surface.

Our skin is a semi-permeable membrane. It serves as our protection, at the same time great amounts of toxins are excreted through it. If the gut is full of toxins from the food that you consume, the skin will likely age quicker. One of the ways to reverse aging is to consume nutritious food like vegetables and fruits.

The ingredients for this week's juice are: 2 cucumbers, 3 carrots, 1 lemon, 2 avocados, and kale.

Cucumber

Kale

The human eye can be compared to a camera which gathers, focuses, and transmits light through a lens to create an image of the environment.

For this week's recipe, we'll be needing some pineapple, carrots, lemon, dandelion greens, orange bell pepper, apples.

Pineapple

Bromelain have anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulant properties. Also, it has shown promise as an immunity booster. This in turn may strengthen the immune response by enhancing the response of the body's front line immune defense (T-cells).

Carrots

Carrots are high in provitamin A carotenes. Carrots are also high in carotenoid content which prevents oxidative damage inside our bodies.

Lemon

Lemons aids in weight loss, as some of you might wonder. Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. Studies have shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet, do in factlose weight faster.

Dandelion Greens

Dandelions are one of the most potent greens we can juice that help rehabilitate and detoxify our liver. In addition, dandelion greens are excellent for keeping our vision in sharp form, as well as being beneficial for detoxifying our kidneys and entire urogenital canal.

Bell Pepper

Bell peppers contain very high amounts of vitamin C and Vitamin A.

Apple

Research shows that consuming energy drinks can cause High Blood Pressure, Arrhythmic Heart Palpitations and increased risk of cardiac arrest. Several cases of drinking too many energy drinks in a 24 hour period have caused cardiac arrest and have led to death. This is because energy drinks cause more forceful contractions in the heart, leading to a higher chance of cardiac arrest.

Furthermore, since energy drinks are designed to boost your energy, there are traces of high sugar content compared to soft drinks. Even "sugar-free" drinks are considered harmful to the body since it can have an effect of a "sticky blood" syndrome, where your blood platelets stick together and clot in your veins, leading to a higher chance of stroke. Also, stimulants in energy drinks can interact with high caffeine. It may cause or increase anxiety and insomnia, especially when drunk regularly or at an excessive amount.

On the other hand, there are several alternatives that can give you energy and skip-off energy drinks. First is drinking water. Our body is made up of 60% water, and according to research, drinking a total of eight glasses of water daily fulfills the requirement our body demands like promoting hydration, bowel movement and blood circulation.

Second is intake of protein like nuts and fish because these are excellent sources for Vitamin B12, which increase your cognitive function. Also, it can give you Omega-3 fatty acids, which improve cognitive function. Third, is drinking Green Tea. Green tea contains EGCG which speeds up your metabolism. It gives us the ability to burn about 70 calories a day.

Lastly, juicing vegetables will give you great energy! Juicing Dark, Leafy Greens like Kale or Spinach are great sources for B Vitamins, which increases metabolism and energy throughout the body. Micronutrients from drinking green juice will keep your body fueled, increase your immunity, and promote proper digestion and organ function.

Beets
Beets have soluble fiber. This is my favorite type of fiber because soluble fiber delays the emptying of your stomach which could help control weight gain. Soluble fiber also is capable of lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol.
Cucumber
Cucumber has silica, a mineral which our connective tissue needs for optimal function. It's also important for joint function and even relieves joint pain due to it's anti-inflammatory effects.
Lemon
Lemon is one of the few foods that contain more negative charged ions, providing your body with more energy when it enters the digestive tract. The scent of lemon also has mood enhancing and energizing properties. The smell of lemon juice can brighten your mood and help clear your mind. Lemon can also help reduce anxiety and depression.
Mint
Mint is a powerful herb that can help restore vibrant skin. Mint contains salicylic acid, which a natural acne fighting compound. Mint also has Vitamin A which regulates oiliness.
Apple
An extensive body of research has linked high soluble fibre intake with a slower buildup of cholesterol-rich plaque in your arteries. The phenolic compound found in apple skins also prevents the cholesterol that gets into your system from solidifying on your artery walls. When plaque builds inside your arteries, it reduces blood flow to your heart, leading to coronary artery disease.
Ginger
Ginger can not only be warming on a cold day, but can help promote healthy sweating, which is often helpful during colds. A good sweat may do a lot more than simply assist detoxification.
Kale
Kale contains antioxidants including carotenoids and flavonoids. Antioxidants protect our cells from unstable molecules called free radicals. Antioxidants are associated with many of the anti-cancer health benefits. Kale has been shown to ward off breast, colon, ovarian, prostate and bladder cancer.

In this week's Saturday Strategy, we are fortunate to have Dr. Jonny Bowden, a renowned speaker, doctor, and creator of the New You in 22 Program. Even though his beliefs in nutrition is different from what the mainstream media is telling us, he was featured by USA today, CNN, Fox News, and The Dr. Oz Show to name a few.

The real success comes from working with your hormones and giving them what they need to flourish (or maybe keep in check). Insulin, leptin, cortisol...these and many more are explained in this program so you can have the edge against weight gain.

The 5 Pathways

Huge myth #3 - Diet and Exercise are all you need to focus on

These are absolutely key, but they are only part of the picture. Diet and Exercise make up 2 pathways in your health. The other 3 pathways are:

So yes, diet and exercise are key, but make sure you are also getting plenty of sleep, keeping your stress levels low, and detoxing your body to ensure you run as efficiently as you were meant to.

Beets

Beets are packed with nitrates. Many clinical studies have found that supplementing your diet with 2 cups of beet juice per day actually lowers your blood pressure. Besides lowering your blood pressure the nitrates found in beets enhance athletic performance by reducing your body's need for oxygen during a workout.

Cinnamon
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Cinnamon is used to help treat muscle spasms, vomiting, diarrhea, infections, the common cold, loss of appetite, and erectile dysfunction. In some cases people rub just a drop of cinnamon oil on their genitals to order to help increase their sexual stimulation.

Basil
According to research presented at the British Pharmaceutical Conference (BPC) in Manchester, basil has properties that can help prevent the harmful effects of aging. Holy basil extract was effective at killing off harmful molecules and preventing damage caused by some free radicals in the liver, brain and heart

Celery
Celery is widely used as a diuretic, which increasing the passing of urine. It is rich in sodium and potassium, which is a great post-workout drink. Also, celery contains coumarins, which have anti-cancer properties and help lower blood pressure.

Manuka Honey
Honey aids in better athletic performance. It is used as an ergogenic aid to improve athletic performance. Studies have shown that athletes maintain optimal blood sugar levels two hours following a workout when they have consumed a honey-protein combination. In addition, muscle recuperation and glycogen restoration (carbohydrates stored in muscle) was favorable in those individuals.

Ginger
In lab tests, scientists have showed that ginger extract may slow the growth of colorectal and ovarian cancer cells, as well as protect against Alzheimer's disease.

Strawberries
Strawberries also contain powerful heart-health boosters. Ellagic acid and flavonoids— or phytochemicals—can provide an antioxidant effect that can benefit heart health in various ways. One way includes counteracting the effect of low-density lipoprotein, or LDL—bad cholesterol in the blood—which causes plaque to build up in arteries. With a healthy heart comes healthy blood flow to the extremities.

In today's Saturday Strategy, we're going to talk about joint pain. We often get questions on join pain relief on our Facebook fan page. So if you are experiencing any sort of joint pain or you know someone that is, this Saturday Strategy is for you!

Joints form the connections between bones. Imagine our body working like a machine. Since we learned how to stand, our joints served as anchor for support and movement. Any damage to the joints from disease or injury can interfere with your movement and cause a lot of pain.

Joint pain is extremely common. In one national survey, about one-third of adults reported having joint pain within the past 30 days. Knee pain was the most common complaint, followed by shoulder and hip pain. As you get older, painful joints become increasingly more common.

OTC medications and are the most common way to relieve joint pain. Unfortunately, continuous intake of pain relief medications can damage your liver. In this week's Saturday Strategy, were going to share with you a juice recipe that can lessen this pain and give you energy to start your day!

Pineapple

Around 2737 BC, a few leaves were blown from a nearby tea tree into his boiled water. The emperor took a sip of the brew and was pleasantly surprised by its flavor and restorative properties.

Not only are we going to share the power of green tea this week, we are going to enhance it with other amazing ingredients that will make feel more alert and productive throughout the day. The ingredients are the following: Lemon grass, Ginger, Mint, Matcha Green Tea and Manuka Honey.

Lemongrass
Lemongrass can help prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast. It also contains properties that are thought to relieve pain, reduce fever, stimulate the uterus and menstrual flow, and contain antioxidant properties.

Ginger
Ginger may also help reduce chronic pain by lowering your levels of hormones that induce inflammation. According to a study published in 2005 suggests that ginger could lessen pain more effectively than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Ginger contains anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols. These substances are believed to explain why so many people with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis experience reductions in their pain levels and improvements in their mobility when they consume ginger regularly.

Mint
Mint is a powerful herb that can help restore vibrant skin. Mint contains salicylic acid, which a natural acne fighting compound. Mint also has Vitamin A which regulates oiliness.

Matcha Green Tea
Matcha increases energy levels and endurance. Samurais (the noble warriors of medieval and early-modern Japan) drank matcha green tea before going into battle due to the tea's energizing properties. While all green tea naturally contains caffeine, the energy boost received from matcha is largely due to its unique combination of other nutrients. The increased endurance from a bowl of matcha green tea can last up to 6 hours and because of the effects of L-Theanine. Matcha drinkers experience none of the usual side-effects of stimulants such as nervousness and hypertension.

Manuka Honey
Honey is an ideal liver fuel because it contains a nearly 1:1 ratio of fructose to glucose. A properly fueled liver is central to optimal glucose metabolism during sleep and exercise. Studies have shown that those who use honey as their sweetener of choice have reduced weight gain and percentage of body fat, as well as improved HDL cholesterol, improved blood sugar levels, and reduced oxidative damage.

Nowadays, a lot of people are making ends meet. Thus, access to good health and nutrition is sometimes disregarded. When I began my journey to health, I struggled with financing the ingredients needed for my juices. Instead of dwelling on this, I looked for a solution. So now, I'm going to share with you the first juice recipe that I made that is very affordable, yet nutritious and revitalizing! It's called "Beginner's Juice". Some of the ingredients are:

Carrots

Carrots are high in provitamin A carotenes. Carrots are also high in carotenoid content which prevents oxidative damage inside our bodies. Select carrots that are firm, smooth and bright colored. The great thing about carrots besides their nutritional value is that they are delicious and sweet so they taste great in about any juice.

Celery

Have you ever heard people say that celery is high in sodium? Well you might be surprised because even though celery does have natural sodium, which is a concern for people with high blood pressure -- celery actually helps lower blood pressure due to a compound called phthalides. These compounds are believed to lower blood pressure by reducing the body's hormone levels that constrict blood vessels and therefore increase blood pressure.

Lemon

Believe it or not but lemon are alkalizing for the body. Many people think since lemons are sour they are actually acidic inside your body. Inside your body lemons don't act acidic, instead they have alkalizing properties that keep your pH balance. It's best to start your day with warm water and lemon juice.

Cucumber

Besides the abundant amount of water that cucumbers contain, they also contain a very important mineral called silica. Without silica our connective tissue would not properly function. It's also important for joint function and even relieves joint pain due to it's anti-inflammatory effects. Besides being important for our connective tissue, silica is great for the health of skin, hair and nails because silica stimulates the production of collagen. This juice is simple to prepare but fully loaded with great stuff and tastes really delicious!

Well, I call it the Whydentity Process. You may have heard me talk about it before. So have you done yours? What is the Whydentity Process?

It's combining your "Why" with your "Identity". It's ensuring success because of the very depth of you as a person, your soul, your spirit, your mindset. It becomes one with your purpose. So if my goal is to raise the consciousness of humanity or make a bigger impact on people, through physical fitness and health. What's my why. This is the why that I carry in order to touch the world around me.

If you can figure out your why, we can leverage your time to create a life of meaning, a life of purpose, and a life of passion. What better time to start but right now at the beginning of 2014? So let's talk about your Why. The Whydentity process for me changed my life 3 years ago. There was a season in my life when I just wasted my life away by partying. I was unfulfilled in many areas in my life and I knew there was more out there for me to accomplish.

How does the Whydentity Process Work?

It's taking your Why and combining it with your identity. Let's pick a goal. I want you think about your number 1 goal for January 2014. Now, why do you want that goal? What is the reason for it? Think about that some more. Then I want you to ask yourself, what does that goal look like when you ACHIEVE it? I want you to be real specific, descriptive, and visualize that ultimate outcome. What does it feel like when you achieve that goal? What do you hear from your friends 6 months from now? At the end of the day, we're not guaranteed any time at all. I want to make sure in 2014, you are leveraging your time toward something that's meaningful and that's going to create impact. I want to start a conversation with you. Twas the night before a fitlife christmas, when all through the house,
All the creatures were juicing, even the mouse!
The veggies were organic and washed with care,
In the hopes that Drew Claus would soon be there.

The fitlifers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of turmeric danced in their heads.
And Mae in her 'kerchief, and John in his cap,
Had just settled their brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
They sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the next room in a flash they flew,
To see the man they were sure had to be Drew

With a smile so big it could light up the sky,
He looked at them both and asked for their "why".
More rapid than eagles their answers did come,
We want the world to detox, but juicers...we have none.

He reached in his bag, and pulled out some things,
They were all big boxes, that had the name Kuvings!

Drew said, "Here are the Juicers, go hand them out,
we're in this together so there's no need to pout!
But wait, there's one more thing you need,
a detox recipe to make them healthy with speed."

With a wave of his hands, out they did leap,
veggies so vibrant, Mae started to weep.

"Cucumber and lemon will help them digest,
kale, ginger and beets will do all the rest.
For when you detox, your body will give praise,
no longer will your mind be stuck in a maze."

"I hope all this is clear, because it's all true,

And with that he was gone, back into his sled,
and John was left with one thing in his head.

This week, I'm going to give you strategies that you can use right now to eliminate holiday weight gain.

Tip #1

Sweat it out! First thing in the morning go to the gym. Don't break that ritual
just because of the holidays.

Tip #2

Be the DD! You know as well as I do that alcohol is one of the worst things for you. When you drink alcohol, your liver has to metabolize the alcohol before it can process anything else. Not only that, it lowers your testosterone and impacts your HDH levels.

Tip #3

If you're going to eat at other people's homes, eat before you go there. Eat something healthy like a salad that's going to load you up on a micronutrient level. Have a couple of green drinks, and a little coconut oil and it will help subside any hunger pains that you're gonna have at the dinner party.

Tip #4

Bring a dish to the dinner party, something that is healthy and make sure you bring a dish big enough for everyone else.

Tip #5

The holidays with all the food and treats makes your taste buds toxic. We have to train those taste buds to trim your waist. We've talked about it in one of our books but how do you do that? When you walk into the grocery store, buy healthy food. Get things that don't spike your insulin up. Keep your blood sugar levels even so that you're not fuelling up on those things that are bad for you.

Tip #6

Keeping the kitchen clean is one of the biggest goals that I have throughout the holiday season and throughout the rest of the year. This helps me to limit deserts and cravings. I know it's the holidays and you feel entitled to have that extra brownie, a desert and everything else. Just remember what you've worked hard for all year.

Lastly, your heart goes where money flows. And what I mean by that is, invest in yourself, hire a personal trainer, get the Juice with Drew Program. You know get something that can help you stay accountable. That's been one of my secrets throughout ages, is to hire somebody that knows what they're doing to hold me on track for what I wanna do.

It's not normal to feel awful when you first wake up in the morning. Rather, you should feel absolutely amazing and bursting with vibrant energy. For 5,000 years, Ayurveda has been practiced to incorporate different herbs and spices that can boost up your immune system. Unfortunately, due to our lack of knowledge on natural remedies, we often take pharmaceutical medications and antibiotics.

The solution to your problem is an elixir that I personally made. The recipe includes lemon, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, vanilla bean, honey and coconut water. It's easy to make and we can get these ingredients virtually everywhere. I call this the Grandpa Gubons Miracle Elixir, named after my grandfather.

Turmeric

Acts like an anti-inflammatory drug : A 2004 study published in the journal Oncogene found that curcumin (as well as resveratrol) were effective alternatives to the drugs aspirin, ibuprofen, sulindac, phenylbutazone, naproxen, indomethacin, diclofenac, dexamethasone, celecoxib, and tamoxifen in exerting anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity against tumor cells.

Ginger

Functions like a liver cleanser by stimulating the liver, removing toxins like uric acid and liquefies the bile. This is part of the reason why lemons are used as a great cleanser. Welcome to another Mindset Monday. Always remember, we're in this together!

In this Mindset Monday, I'm going to talk to you about a practice that I've been doing for awhile. Something that I absolutely love because it opens up my mind, gives me a deeper sense of peace, and forms a stronger bond to the rest of my brothers and sisters. Thus, I feel much more one with everything else.

The goal of doing the "Sky gazing" is releasing those toxic emotions from the past that still come up in your present moment. This can help release those chains and allow you to move forward in a much more relaxed state. Thus, controlling your own destiny.
How is Sky gazing done??

Find a relaxing place, put your hands on your knees and position your neck at a forty five degree angle. Look up at the sky while imagining crazy graphic designs. Then, perform deep breaths for about fifteen minutes.

I'll talk to you more about that in our Mindset Mondays to come. But for now, I wanted to explain to you exactly what sky gazing is. So after this video is finished, I want you to do this right away! Welcome to another Saturday Strategy!

In this week's episode, we're going to talk about something undeniably interesting and always in time -- Liver Detoxing!

Why do we need to detox?

Our bodies naturally produce toxins. We have anti-oxidants that counteract the effects of these toxins. But things are just different most especially in our environment right now. We are constantly exposed to chemicals that our bodies don't have any idea how to deal with. Imagine 40,000 chemicals in our environment and we never know how many of them were properly tested in relation to their effects upon exposure to our bodies.

What can these toxins do in your body?

Weight gain is one of the primary effects of the accumulation of toxins in the body. Naturally, the fats protect our bodies from the harmful effects of these toxins. Thyroid, on the other hand, serves as a sponge of these toxins because they absorb them, preventing problems on neurological conditions such as diabetes. Our bodies are smart for having its own detox organs in the lymphatic and circulatory system. But these organs aren't coping up with the increasing demand to get rid of these toxins build-up in our bodies. And so we need to do an active detox that can supplement our body organs in this concern.

What is your primary organ that does the detoxing?

Liver. The liver is one of the most significant body organs, playing an essential role in most metabolic processes that the body incur such as detoxification. It gets rid of the toxins and other foreign substances most especially those coming from the gut through a series of chemical reactions. And there are two phases in liver detoxification.

Phase 1 | Toxins become a little bit more toxic at first. They enter the P-450 cytochrome system and are reduced to smaller fragments. The process creates a new non-toxic molecule that get excreted through the bile, urine or stool.

Phase 2 | The conjugation pathway which eliminates the toxins. In this phase, liver cells add another substance (cysteine, glycine or a sulfur molecule) to a toxic chemical or drug so that it will be rendered less harmful. This phase doesn't happen that often for many people because of the different deficiencies and body chemistries that we have.

Hi FitLifers, welcome to another exciting episode of Saturday Strategy! In this week's episode, we are going to talk about Seasonal Juicing.

What is seasonal juicing? It comes from seasonally eating. What is eating seasonally? We wanted to ask this question to random people in the streets and see how they would respond.

There are many benefits to eating or juicing seasonally.

#1 Easy on the Wallet

When we are eating produce in season, that means the crop is being harvested locally. With surplus at hand, the price will drop. Imagine buying basil in the middle of winter. It's hard to get and it's super expensive. But when you purchase basil in the middle of summer, you can get bundles of it very inexpensively. Put the laws of supply and demand on your side!

#2 Easy on the Environment

When we are eating/juicing seasonally by supporting local farmers, we can expect less carbon footprint. We are truly blessed in the U.S. where we can really get any produce we want at any time. But imagine where that produce comes from (e.g. dragon fruit in the middle of winter). They have been shipped from another part of the world which contributes to unnecessary carbon footprint. Also, when transporting produce, often times the produce is zapped with radiation to kill germs.

#3 It's the Freshness that Counts

If you're like me, the taste and freshness of the produce make all the difference in your cooking. By eating/juicing seasonally and locally, we can expect the produce to stay on the vine just a little bit longer than usual which will give it its distinct flavor. When we do the exact opposite (eating non-seasonally and globally), the produce have been harvested early and refrigerated. This is the reason why a lot of things we find in the grocery stores taste very stale like cardboard.

Here are some of the Produce You Should Pick Up for This Fall

Though all varieties of squash are good nutrition choices, winter varieties tend to be more nutrient-dense. They generally contain much more beta-carotene and more of several B vitamins than summer squash. Winter squash is as delicious as it is colorful. These hard, tasty squash can fill up your garden — and your stomach, becoming a healthy addition to your eating plan that you're sure to enjoy.

Brussels sprouts have a somewhat bad reputation — but, although they are often referred to as the dinner table enemy of children everywhere, these sprouts deserve a second chance. They are actually wonderful sources of vitamin A, folacin, potassium, calcium and fiber. Brussels sprouts are low-fat and high in protein. And while they may be an acquired taste for some, others find brussels sprouts quite delicious.

Firm and green, even when ripe; this large, thin-skinned yellowish-green pear is best eaten fresh. When slightly under-ripe, it can be baked or poached, but once it ripens, its sweet, mellow flavor and abundant juice make it an excellent choice for salads and snacks.

In this week's episode, we're going to talk about this amazing energy vitamin -- Vitamin B12!

Today, we're going to talk about aging!

What is Aging? In the book, Mike and Catherine broke it down into AGEs. AGEs cause a number of illnesses and diseases. These are the harmful elements that are responsible to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and a bunch of other diseases.

So what are AGEs?

AGEs are Advanced Glycation End-Products. These are being formed when sugar combines with proteins without enzymes. It's that little sticky and nasty creatures getting inside bodies with us having little to no abilities of getting rid of them. They cause the aging process to happen much more faster.

The question now is, "What are we going to do?"

The answer to that is to adopt a diet that's high in minimizing these AGE's effects. Here, we';re going to give you 3 steps in order to that.

# 1 Avoid Sugar

Sugar is essentially a neurotoxin. The more sugar that you have, the more drive will there be for your taste buds to crave for more, causing the AGE process to happen much quicker.

# 2 Avoid Grains

Apparently, we don't know how these are being prepared and handled. And unfortunately, the grains that we consume today are not the right types that we're supposed to be eating. Furthermore, it accelerates the AGE process. It's hard on our digestion and it can potentially have gluten, which is very dangerous for people with celiac disease.

# 3 Cook Meals at a Lower Temperature

Eating vegetables that are boiled, steamed or even fresh like a vegan diet poses tremendous amounts of benefits as well.

Avoid brown, roasted, grilled, caramelized foods altogether. Avoid foods with coloring in it. These are the kinds that went different extractions that they put into your food that are not being found in the food label.

And now that we've tackled what NOT to do, let's talk about what CAN we do to help minimize the effects of these AGEs.

I'm also going to share about good fats that are appetite-suppressant, aiding you if you have weight loss goals.So the ingredients that we're gonna be using are:

Fall is here! This is a great time to change what you juice. Add some more flavor to your Fall juices. Right now is the best time to juice vegetables and herbs that will strengthen your immune system.

Firstly, the reason why you probably want to use pumpkin is because it's loaded with vitamin A, which is good for the eyes, right? It actually has more vitamin A than carrots. Pumpkins have this great distinct orange color that just like carrots, are packed with beta-carotene.

It also contains a lot of Vitamin C which helps in controling cortisol levels. And the seeds actually help with LDL cholesterol because of its high traces of niacin and pantothenic acid. Pumpkins are rich as well in folate, thiamin, protein, essential minerals, copper, calcium, potassium and phosphorus.

Pumpkins also contain a carotenoid called beta-cryptoxanthin. Beta-cryptoxanthin has been shown to decrease the risk of lung cancer in smokers.

Pumpkin is an amazing carb loaded with potassium. A lot of people say that banana is the super-fuel of potassium but pumpkin, in my own opinion, actually has more potassium.

So let's talk about the ingredients that you're going to need to make this amazing pumpkin milk recipe.

So here's the pumpkin, medium sized pumpkin for the milk. We have one coconut, half of cinnamon stick, some vanilla beans and milk. So now that you have the ingredients, let's get started with the recipe, shall we?

Step # 1 : Cut the pumpkin open and abstract the meaty juicy goodness that we will be juicing so that we can get the pumpkin juice.

Step # 2: Cut open the coconut abstracting the meat from the coconut. Put in it a little bit of water and make the actual coconut milk. Dump it into the blender real quick.

Step # 3: Add your seasoning to the pumpkin milk. Combine the two together in the blender with the juice and it's going to be so delicious. I'm excited for you to try this, let's get to it.

Alright Fitlifers, so let's try this very seasonal juice. I love the taste of pumpkin. The coconut milk adds a little bit more fat to it as well. If we wanted to, we can add a little bit more pumpkin seed to it. By putting aside the seeds in the dehydrator, you can still utilize the seeds

In this week's episode, we're going to talk about Omega-3 fatty acids.

I take it every single day and this is the ultimate Omega-3 fatty acid delivery system. That gives me 2.4 grams of actual Omega-3 fatty acids in the most absorbable form possible.

So first, this fish oil pill simply makes me feel better than any of the fish oil that I was taking before. I've tried them all - in liquid form, fermented fish oil and all of these other things. But this is the best.

Second, they are in the natural triglyceride form. Meaning, there's no alcohol backbone. This means that they are more absorbable and I can take them on an empty stomach like eating a fatty meal with my fish oil every morning.

Third, they provide the daily dose of 2.4 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is what I need to keep up on my blood levels. Remember what we talked about earlier?

Fourth, the concentration. 80% of the fish oil gets absorbed. So, it takes 3 grams of fish oil to get 2.4 grams. This means no horse pills. There's no current provider of the triglyceride form with this level of concentration.

Fifth, on sensitive digestion. When we take fish oil, we sometimes get the fish burps. Some people have sensitive digestion so they end up with an upset stomach as well. I don't get that with this. There's a special enteric coding on this pill as well that bypasses your stomach and goes straight into your small intestine.So this is great for sensitive stomach most especially that it has increased absorbability.

In this week's episode, we're going to talk about something that is really important -- energy. Would you consider having a sweet tooth an addiction? For those who don't have diets high in sugar it can be hard to understand why it can be so challenging for others to eliminate soda, candy, and other sweets.

Eat the food that doesn't contain a lot of sugar in it, those that break you through your sugar cravings.
In this week's Saturday Strategy, I'm going to give you four eminent tools to stop this silent evil from destroying your body.

4 Tools

So now let's dig into these 4 tools further to get a better life free from sugar hassles.

Tool # 1 Filtered Water

We don't need a lot of explaining on this. Water is a therapy that heals your body and revives it to its original state. It neutralizes whatever it is that's in excess and returns your body back to its original rate of metabolism.

Tool # 2 Glutamine

Glutamine is one of the most effective ingredients against sugar cravings. They say that 1/4 tsp under the tongue is already enough and it's going to work in just roughly about 10 minutes for immediacy.

Tool # 3 Cacao and Dark Chocolate

Three Amazing Tools for Friendship

Tool 1 - Get Grateful

Tool 3 - Invite people to experience something fun together!

So let's walk through these three tools in order to gain more friends and have these positive vibes!

Tool 1 - Get Grateful

Making new friends actually start with working on myself. In the mornings, I meditate and think about all the things that are going right in my life. I become emotionally grateful with the environment that I have, friends that I'm surrounded with, the mission that I'm on, the health and vitality that's in my life.

I also keep a journal of all the small things that I am grateful for - even if it's something small. Perhaps someone opened a door for me; I get to pet a cute dog, or play wiffle ball with my co-workers. You'll begin to see that all these little things ADD UP QUICKLY! We have so much to be grateful for. If you agree, please give this video a big thumbs up!

Tool 2 - Spread Your Good Feelings

Now that you're in a state of gratefulness, it's time to share that good feeling with someone. The happiest people are those who are able to express their positivity to others because they are a center for good feelings. Everywhere I go and whenever I buy something, I make a point of being as nice and genuine to the other person as possible. Overtime, I have people recognize me and feel very happy to see me again.

Tool 3 - Invite people to experience something fun together!

Learn people's names :) Ask people what do they love to do for fun! Maybe you have something in common! Here at FitLife.TV, we have something called Friday Fun Day. We like kayaking, paddle boat, or do anything random to mix things up. We like to invite people and share in that experience.

If you are like most people in America - you could be waking up and having a cup of coffee or some other stimulant that damages your endocrine system and inhibits your fat burning potential. So what do we have to prevent that? What do we have as an alternative to boost our energy up and alkalize our body healthily?

Lemon water has amazing healing benefits. In this episode, we're giving you 3 of the many benefits that lemon can bring to your body.

Tool 1 - Enhances Mood

Lemon energizes you and it enhances your mood. The energy a human receives from food comes from the atoms and molecules in your food. A reaction occurs when the positive charged ions from food enter the digestive tract and interact with the negative charged enzymes.

Hello Fitlifers! It feels great to see you in the after another productive week! I'm excited to share this week's Mindset Monday and start it with a love song!

If you are ever in the San Diego area, I want to invite you to workout or have a green drink with our wonderful team here. They are some of the most amazing, caring people on the planet and are responsible for transforming millions of peoples lives.

I've been looking at 2012's Most Popular 'How To' Google Searches Worldwide: What Did Americans Hope To Learn Most? Do you know what it is FitLifer?

You guessed right! People are searching for "How to Love" all over the world. Here in the United States, it's one of the most searched phrases. I certainly don't have it all figured out, but on this week's Mindset Monday, I want to respond to this top search. I recently read this book called the "5 Love Languages" and I want to share with you 3 of the 5 tools this book teaches.

And I'm hoping that you will use these 3 tools to love selflessly.

Tool 1 - Words of Affirmation

Tool 2 - Physical Touch

Tool 3 - Quality Time

So let's take a closer look with these 3 tools.

Tool 1 - Words of Affirmation

Giving people Words of Affirmation means that you send love through using words. When we take the time to genuinely compliment people, it makes people feel loved. What are you saying to the people you love.

I'm so grateful for you.

I'm proud of you.

I'm honored to be a part of your life experience.

Another way we can show love is to write a card for someone. A handwritten card is so rare these days. If you love getting handwritten cards, please give this video a big thumbs up! Also, feel free to write me a note. You just might get one back. :)

Tool 2 - Physical Touch

I love giving and receiving hugs. Another way we can show love to those around us is through physical touch! Physical touch is so critical for our survival. Human beings are made to be embraced. Infants who are touched gently on a regular basis gain weight and grow at better rates than babies who lack this contact. In a work environment, perhaps the appropriate thing to do is give your coworkers a high-five! Give someone a high-five right now! Or is a high five to 80's? Maybe a fist bump? No? How about the rocket ship?

Tool 3 - Quality Time

Another way to express love to someone is through quality time. Quality time means that you spend time with someone at a coffee shop just having a conversation with them. Put your cell phone on the table. You give them your undivided attention and you listen to them attentively. When was the last time you just listened?

So always remember these 3 tools in order to live a life full of gratitude.

All of us are born to love and be loved. It's what our lives are all about. It's the greatest feeling in this world to be connected to someone else or to our friends. No man is an island and we're all entitled to love.

In this weeks Saturday Strategy, we are going to be making one of my favorite juices using 2 Ingredients - Grapefruit and mint. This recipe is perfect on a warm summer day and it tastes absolutely amazing.

So here are the three tools that we will look closely with to attain the best that we can reap from grapefruit.

Tool # 1 What are the health benefits?

Grapefruit Juice Ranked among Those Highest in Antioxidant Activity

Phytonutrients in grapefruit called limonoids inhibit tumor formation by promoting the formation of glutathione-S-transferase, a detoxifying enzyme. This enzyme sparks a reaction in the liver that helps to make toxic compounds more water soluble for excretion from the body.

Grapefruit contains pectin, a form of soluble fiber that has been shown in animal studies to slow down the progression of atherosclerosis. In one study, animals fed a high-cholesterol diet plus grapefruit pectin had 24% narrowing of their arteries, while animals fed the high-cholesterol diet without grapefruit pectin had 45% narrowing.

Naringenin, a flavonoid concentrated in grapefruit, helps repair damaged DNA in human prostate cancer cells (cell line LNCaP), reports a lab study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.

Tool # 2 A juice recipe that tastes delicious and is loaded with phytonutrients

Recipe:

In making the recipe for grapefruit, don't leave the skin of the fruit on. In order for us to extract the most nutrient, enzymes and amino acids, leave the white lining of the fruit because that is some of the healthist things.

Grapefruit and Mint. Put them in the power juicer. And there you have your awesome tasting juice combination.

You can also freeze them and turn them into pop-cycles.

It's a perfect Gall-Bladder Detox Recipe.

Tool # 3 Other Ways to Prepare

Grapefruit sections add a tangy spark to green salads.

Instead of your morning glass of OJ, have a glass of grapefruit juice.

Combine diced grapefruit with cilantro and chili peppers to make a unique salsa.

To enjoy a salad with a tropical flair, combine chopped grapefruit pieces, cooked shrimp and avocados and serve on a bed of romaine lettuce.
