He Beat Cancer TWICE and Now Steve Wants To Share His Secrets with YOU! - Saturday Strategy

Today I am excited to introduce you to one of my good friends, Steve Fillmore. Steve is a 42-year-old flight attendant from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has beat cancer not only once, but twice. Seven months ago Steve was bald and just barely overcoming his second bout of cancer. Just look at him now! We are lucky to have him here with us to share his story of hope as well as give us some tips to maintaining vibrant health.

A few years ago Steve was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He decided on surgery to cut the cancer out of his body. The surgery was successful.

Exactly one year later the cancer came back in the form of a tumor in near his spine. Steve decided to use chemotherapy in order to kill the cancer and get rid of the tumor.

Steve learned a lot of techniques that helped pull him through tough times including a good mindset and positive affirmations. Steve successfully beat his cancer and is now living a life full of good foods to help keep him strong.

Now healthy and with a full head of hair, Steve shares his story of hope with anyone who needs some light and also has lots of tips on how to maintain good health and vitality.

Is Your Thyroid Making You Tired No Matter How Much Sleep You Get? - Saturday Strategy

Are you constantly fatigued, no matter how much sleep you get?

Do you lack energy, motivation... possibly even feel depressed?

According to The American Thyroid Association (ATA), more than 12 percent of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime.

What exactly does your thyroid do?

The thyroid is an endocrine gland that produces and directs various hormones in the body. The health of the thyroid is paramount to overall well being, playing a vital role in cell growth, metabolism and energy levels. The thyroid produces two major primary hormones called triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). T3 is the more bio­active version of the hormone, while T4 is considered the less active, storage form. Surprisingly, the thyroid outputs roughly 20 times more T4 than T3.

This gland - and the hormones it secretes - work to do many things, such as:

Electrolyte transportation
Cellular protein synthesis
Regulate cardiac and muscle activity
Improve metabolism and help the body turn food into energy
Repair bones
Turn beta-carotene into vitamin A
Regulate growth during childhood
Affects mental processes
Aids in the regulation of a person’s sex drive and a woman’s menstrual period
In this weeks Saturday Strategy, I interviewed my friend and acupuncturist, Jim Chialtas, L.Ac. from Laurel Acupuncture Clinic of Functional Medicine.

He had a lot of great info to share with you!

The most common forms of thyroid disease are:

Graves Disease (the autoimmune form of Hyperthyroidism)
Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis (the autoimmune form of Hypothyroidism)
Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)

Lack of certain vitamins and minerals can actually lead to thyroid deficiency and if you have thyroid deficiency, the vitamins you are consuming aren’t being absorbed and utilized properly.

It’s important that we all make sure to get adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals, either by eating plenty of nutrient-dense foods containing or by using quality supplements in addition to a healthy diet.

How to Get Confident - Mindset Monday

Have you ever felt like you’re robbed of self-confidence, when everything that you do just seems to be failing and you don’t have a direction in your life? Maybe you’re just overthinking a situation in the past. Maybe you’re living into a bad memory that you want to forget. Or maybe, just maybe, that you gave up on life thinking that you’re too small to achieve your big dreams.

You can’t be that person!

There are many things in life that will drain our emotions, which in the process, impact our confidence. Some people might have made you feel that you’re incapable of achieving your dreams. Maybe you’ve stumbled upon one thing that you badly wanted, and you didn’t achieve it. Whatever the reason is, at one point in our lives, we lose a part of our self-confidence.

But life is full of seasons, and we’re fully capable of bouncing back. And it only takes YOU to claim back your SELF-CONFIDENCE.

Firstly, it’s important that you identify what your virtues are. The more specific you are to your identity, the less shape-shifted you are to what this world wants you to be.

Then, acceptance follows. You have to accept who you are and come into terms with what you can show to this world. Your gaol and ambitions should be bounded what you are, and not by what the society wants you to become. You don’t have to wear a mask to live up on someone else’s expectations. Be confident on who you are, your skills and your ability to look at your GOALS in a very optimistic way!

Here are some strategies that are helpful towards building self-confidence:

1) Neurolinguistics Programming

This is about surrounding yourself with people that you want to be like, confident individuals who are always in the go to chase for their dreams in life. Visualize how they do it and slowly integrate it into your lifestyle. Until which, your subconscious will slowly act towards your favour and you will become one of them.

2) Read books that fuel your soul.

Here are some good books to go back to your true self: the Psycho-cybernetics, The Alchemist, and the Way of the Peaceful Warrior.

Living From Your Why – Mindset Monday

Have you had one of those days when you feel just too tired, you feel just too weak or just not in the mood emotionally and spiritually to what you know is the right thing? Maybe you've already worked over time today. Maybe you didn't sleep well because the kids kept you up. Maybe Monday is just… Monday. All you want to do is crash.

You can't.

These are the moments that make us who we are. The moments that define us. Anyone can do the right thing when they're in a good mood (and we should be taking steps to STAY in the right mood like eating healthy, exercising, meditation, relaxation.) But the real test of strength comes when we don't really FEEL like it.

After a long day, will you muster up the energy to help your child with homework? After a long week, will you put in the extra hours to take care of your health? Will you devote time to personal growth and education, even if you only have a few minutes a day?

That's when we step OUTSIDE of ourselves. That's when we need to focus on the WHY. I like to call it the Whydentity. You see, the "why" is your motivation. It's the big picture. It's the ultimate dream of how YOU will impact the people around you. And your identity is not what you see in the mirror. It's not your latest "selfie" and it's not how other people perceive you. It's how you perceive your IDEAL self.

The Whydentity is the symbiotic relationship of WHO you are and WHY you are here. Close your eyes and visualize it. See yourself growing, learning, overcoming barriers and becoming the person that you've always wanted to be. See yourself reaching all of your goals and impacting your close friends and loved ones.

What does that look like? What does that FEEL like? Visualize it like you've already become that person. Like you're already, and it's already happened. Now zoom out, and visualize a tiny little dot. That is todays obstacle. It looks pretty small and simple now doesn't it?

Let's take care of that tiny little speck easily and simply, knowing that the big picture is so glorious and rewarding, we will thank and applaud ourselves for pushing forward one day very soon.

You and I know the importance of a healthy breakfast. Breakfast means "break the fast", and there's no better way to start up your system with good food that will supply your body's energy for the rest of the day.

So what we want to share to you today is a healthy breakfast chia bowl recipe that will make your mornings more beautiful and sunny!

These are the ingredients that we will need:

Chia Seeds - One of the most nutrient dense foods in the world, chia seeds are probably the best plant-based source of Omega-3s out there. Chia seeds are also a great source of magnesium and manganese, and aid in colon cleansing.

Coconut Milk - Coconut milk, especially the lower fat variety, can be used in moderation (1-2 times per week). Unlike cow's milk, coconut milk is lactose free so it can be used as a milk substitute by those with lactose intolerance.

Hemp Seeds - Hemp seeds are high in fiber and are rich in minerals including magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium. Hemp seeds are very rarely allergens, unlike many other nuts and seeds.

Coconut Flakes - Coconut flakes are also a good source of minerals such as manganese and copper. Manganese is an antioxidant that helps prevent damage to your cells and heal wounds. It also plays a role in metabolism and bone development. You need copper, which is another antioxidant, for making red blood cells, forming collagen, absorbing iron and keeping your immune system and nerves functioning properly.

Almonds - Soaked almonds are good energy and memory boosters. They are good for the heart and aid in skin glow, largely due to their antioxidant properties. They also prevent pre-mature ageing.


Blueberries - Blueberries have a lot of health benefits that it’s even labelled a superfood by many health experts. Blueberries fight heart disease and obesity.

We love this breakfast recipe. It will make you feel like a champion, and with you being on top of your health, this is an excellent complement for a good start of your day!

Breakfast Chia Bowl Recipe

Ingredients:

Chia Seeds
Coconut Milk
Hemp Seeds
Coconut Flakes
Soaked Almonds
Blueberries

Take 2 tbs of chia seeds and put it into a bowl.
Pour coconut milk into the bowl in such a way that all the chia seeds are fully covered. You can also use coconut water or almond milk for this step.
Combine, stir, and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes so that the mixture can expand.
Put all the hemp seeds into the bowl.
Then add the coconut flakes.
And then add the almonds and blueberries. You also have the option to add a scoop of protein powder, nutmeg or anything that you like in the mix.

Here is the 'Magnesium Anti-Anxiety Elixir' recipe!

1 tbs of magnesium
1 glass of water
1/2 of a lemon
1 or 2 drops of Stevia
1 ice cube

1) Get 1 tbs of magnesium and drop it into a glass of water.
2) Stir well.
3) Put 1/2 lemon into the mix. You can also put lime if you want to.
4) Add 1 or 2 drops of organic stevia, depending on your taste.
5) Drop 1 ice cube into the combination.

Getting Over Grief - Mindset Monday

How do we get over grief? How do we move on from this tragic point in our lives?

In this week’s Mindset Monday, we will hear some thoughts from Coach Lynn as she shares her personal story and how she got over grief.

Here are the tools that she believes are important in the healing process from grief.

1) Recognize that grief is important.

When we suffer emotional pain, the first stage is always about denial. We tend to deny what’s happening and blind ourselves from the truth. But if we come to terms with the reality, we’re giving ourselves a favour. And this where acceptance begins.

Start acknowledging that you are in grief and feel the pain. Cry it out. Tell yourself that you are in it and that you will be over it. Recognize that healing is a process but savour the pain as long as it lasts, until you know that life can be better from that point in time.

2) Recognize that everybody’s grief is different.

Now that you’ve acknowledged that you are in grief, find a way to get out from your present situation. If you need to read book about someone else’s moving on process, do so. But bear in mind that that your grief is different from everybody else’s grief.

3) Do something for yourself by getting outside yourself. Start giving back.

Instead of focusing on what you have lost, do yourself a favour and redirect your attention to yourself, in a way that will help your spiritual growth. You can do this by giving back to the community, going out with your loved ones, and have a genuine conversation with friends. The relationships that we have with other people will slowly dissipate the feeling of grief, and will replace it with memories that are worth remembering.

Fitlifer, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It may be very difficult now but recognise that life comes in full circle. You can’t be stuck in the dark days forever.

There’s a life out there and you can reclaim that. You can do it!

3 Tools For A Successful Transformation

1) Focus On Your Physical Body

My advice? … change your routine!

No time for the gym? No problem! Grab some weights (dumbbells are great, from 5-15 lbs. to start) and a set of resistance bands and Google “at home workouts with (equipment you’re using).” You can also check out FitnessBlender.com for FREE at home workouts for all fitness levels and equipment (or no equipment) options.

2) Dial In Your Nutrition

What does that mean?

Cut out the common culprits that often keep people stuck, sluggish and tired: No sugar, dairy, wheat or processed food.

Add healthy fats to your juice, like coconut oil or hemp oil. Or add a plant-based protein to your juice. Doing this helps balance blood sugar levels, which is important for fat-loss and nutrient absorption!

I understand you lead a busy life, I do too! So if staying on track is your downfall, try to keep a food journal either on paper (old school is awesome!), or use an app like myfitnesspal.com to log your food. Try this for 3 days and if you find it helps you, keep going!

And more importantly: Forget counting calories and focus on what you’re eating, aiming for food as Mother Nature intended - pure, free of chemicals and questionable ingredients. :)

3) Mindset: Nutrition For Your Brain

3 Tools to Get Over Self Sabotage

Sometimes, the most difficult pains that we suffer are not inflicted by the people that surround us. They are self-inflicted pains. And the worst of which is simply not loving ourselves.

In this Mindset Monday, we will examine 3 tools to get over self-sabotage in order to live a better life.

1) Realize what is going on!

While it sometimes gets blurry, you need to be able to identify whether you’re already sabotaging yourself. You need to draw the line. There’s a fine line between learning from your failures by looking at them, and taking these shortcomings, doubts and insecurities to your lifestyle. So the first step in getting over self-sabotage is realising that you are sabotaging yourself. If you know the root of the problem, you know where to start your solution.

Now that you know that you’re there, ask yourself, “what can I do to get out from here?” Don’t deny the help that is available around you. There’s always some help out there, and you have to stop being afraid to ask for help. At least there, you’ll realise that you’re not alone in this battle, and that someone can and will help you.

2) Rewire yourself.

It’s always in your mindset. Accept that you are in your situation, but focus on what you can do in order to move forward. Stop focusing on the negative things. And acknowledge that everything happens for a reason.If you realise that you have the power to get over your denials, you will start acknowledging the possibilities around you. And then, you will slowly feel that you can create a better reality than your current situation.

3) Rewrite your story.

In Fitlife, we call this process the “Whydentity”. And you need to constantly upgrade your Whydentity - the story of who you are and who you want to be.

Challenge: 10-15 minutes before you go to bed, think about the reality that you want to create. And create your situation. Stop wondering how it’s all going to happen and start acting like it already has!

Dream big, Fitlifer! And slowly, these pieces of imaginations will turn into a reality.

In reality, there are a lot of things you can do on a daily basis to gently cleanse and nourish your body!

1) Water - Start off your morning with a warm glass of fresh squeezed lemon water and - if you’re daring - add some baking soda.

2) Meditation - There are a lot of meditation aids online such as Alpha Waves, which plays music specifically formulated to help the mind relax and focus.

Be radically present in the situation you’re in. If you are having a conservation with a friend, listen. If you are in a class, listen and be engaged. When you are attending in the environment that surrounds you, your world will also start to become attentive to you.

3. Be improving.

Learning should never stop. We should continually invest in our own growth by exploring new opportunities or trying out new hobbies. Maybe you would want to try a new fitness routine, or you’re interested in enrolling for a cooking class. Improve yourself so that you can create a new you.

4. Be real.

There’s an inherent value in being an authentic person. When you’re being honest not just with yourself but also with other people, you unlock that gap between you and the people around you. You won’t have to hold back. And then you will start realising the value of being real and why people let their guards down only to those who are genuine to them.

5. Be Fun.

Do something that awakens your spirit and enlivens your soul. Do something fun with your friends, family, and simply yourself. Think about the things that make you happy and chase after them. It’s all going to be worth it, especially when you know that positivity happens when we keep the fun moments around. People who attract positivity also attract the love and support that they need in life.

You are in control of your life. You can design your own happiness. It does not happen overnight. But it happens in small steps that change not just your life but also the people around you!

How To Reframe Your Attitude When You Can't Change Your Situation - Mindset Monday

Sometimes, we are not in control of our situation. And we don’t even have to. We have to deal with every situation that we are facing. However, as things become more difficult, we tend to ask ourselves more questions. Why are all odds turning against us? What can we do to flip the situation and get away from our present?

Here are some tools that can help you in reframing your attitude when you can’t change your situation.

1. Change your thinking.

Start fueling your mind with positive thoughts. When we are clouded with negativity, all the things around us will be affected. It can affect our relationships, careers, and everything else that matter to us. With a positive mind, you start inspiring positivity in your environment. And instead of looking at how bad your current situation is, you will start thinking about how you can still change the course of your situation and say that positive things lie ahead.

2. Start examining the story that you are telling to yourself.

Ask yourself about the story that your mind is telling you. Is it serving your highest good? Sometimes, it’s really just about how we create our own life stories. If your life story is based on your past, then you might want to recreate a better one that will make you move forward to a better future. Spend some time to think about it. Meditate. And tell yourself of the best life story you could imagine.

3. Laugh when it hurts.

We all have different ways of dealing with hurt. But sometimes, it only takes a good laugh to forget all the pain. Put yourself in a state of spontaneous laughter, if that’s what it takes to give yourself a break and reframe your thinking.

4. Change your mood.

If you can’t change the situation, change your mood. Remember how a smile can change a gloomy environment into a bright one. And you know what studies say, when you force yourself to smile, happy thoughts start rushing into our minds. A negative situation doesn’t always call for a negative reaction. So instead, why don’t you do something to lighten up the situation? Listen to music. Dance. Do something spontaneous. Change your mood. You may not be able to change the situation. But at least you have a better mood to think about how you can deal with the problem constructively.

5. Do things that make you feel good about yourself.

Your reality is a reflection of your mindset. If you have a messy environment, maybe you need to de-clutter. Start pulling up the pieces by cleaning what’s around you. And when you start seeing things in order, you will feel lighter and accomplished. If you want to travel because you know you will be happy at the very least, do it! Break free and give yourself a favour. You may not change the situation but you’re doing something for yourself, one step at a time. And that’s one step closer to being able to fully reframe your attitude in dealing with your current situation.

Fitlifer, life bombards us with constant challenges. But attitude is key, and the only thing that separates you and your situation is your attitude towards the situation. The question is, how are you going to deal with it?

Habits of Highly Authentic People

Depending on someone’s background, environment, and circle of influence, the idea of success is often very intertwined with material possessions. Physical, temporary things like money, accomplishments, houses, cars, clothing, and popularity. In my own personal experience, being successful has nothing to do with money, property ownership, or material possessions, and it has everything to do with how authentic someone is. Hands down, the happiest people I’ve ever met, all fall into one category. They are the most in tune with their authentic selves.

So here are 7 habits of highly authentic people:

1) They are honest - Not only are they honest with themselves, but they are honest with others. Every interaction we have, be it business, friendship, or romance, has a potential to be enhanced and deepened by honesty. The same goes for our relationship with ourselves. The more honest and open we are with ourselves, the more at peace we are contemplating and addressing our innermost thoughts and desires.

2) They understand that integrity is everything - When you operate from a very authentic place, you want to make sure you’re treating people as you would want to be treated. If you start living by the golden rule, it starts to show up in other facets of your experience. I do believe it comes back around.

3) They laugh at their own limitations - Some people take themselves very seriously. They attempt to micromanage every aspect of their lives. This may provide some temporary peace of mind for they analytical types, but usually, if just one thing goes wrong, or different, then their whole world comes crashing down. If you can laugh at yourself, and not take yourself too seriously, it’s gonna save you a lot of pain and headaches in the long run.

4) They love learning - Several studies show a direct link between overall happiness, and personal growth. Learning something new every day, about the world, the universe, people, places, things, and having an INTEREST in something, and a passion to discover more, will keep you authentic and make you personally successful.

5) They are present - Whether it’s prayer or meditation, it keeps you in the moment. Living in the past, or the future, pulls us out of the present moment. Being authentic is being present. Living the experience, the moment.

6) They are retrospective - While remaining present, it’s also necessary to look back on life lessons. How can we lead ourselves to a higher level? How can we take what we learned last week, and apply to to this present moment.

7) They truly love who they are - Self love is absolutely vital when being authentic.
Taking the shadows and flaws of who you are, and accepting them. Demonstrate in your own experience that the ups and downs are a part of the journey. Being authentic is loving everything about us that makes us who we are.

8 Ways to Increase Your Mental Performance

There are millions of benefits attached to having a sharp mind. This translates to good memory, sharp responses, impressive logic and many other things. These are perks that follow when you have mental performance. But looking at the contrary, if our minds are not well performing, we feel weak internally. And then we start to feel how our slow mental capacity affect ourselves, the relationships around us, and the decision-making that we do for our future.

The bottom-line is, we acknowledge the importance of mental performance.

So for this week’s Mindset Monday, we will give you some tips on how to increase your mental performance.

1) Fasting

There’s a good reason why fasting has been practiced even by the elders many decades ago.

By fasting, you give your brain an opportunity to develop and function the way it should. It’s simply about taking a break.

2) Hydration

The human brain is made up of about 75% water. From this fact alone, we can say that getting hydrated all day is an important part of increasing your mental performance. Drink lemon water every morning after waking up.

3) Exercise

By simply doing exercise, we enhance our thinking abilities. We consider how much lapses do we need to run for, the pacing of our walks, the movements that we take, etc.

4) A Cold Bath Followed by Something Hot

This thermal conditioning of the body works well for me. It may be different from one person to another. But our brain communicates with what our bodies are experiencing, which includes the temperatures in our surroundings.

5) Communication

The more engaged we are, the more present we are. When we communicate, we use use our brains actively to be able to come up with a sharp response.

6) Studying in the Morning.

We have to feed our brains with new thoughts and information. And what may possibly be the best time to do that? It’s the morning.

7) Quality Sleep.

We should always aim for a REM sleep. When we achieve that complete sleep cycle, we become mentally sharp in our ways.

8) Stack Super Foods or Supplements.

You should supply yourself with super foods and supplements that will shape your body to health. More specifically, there are certain foods that are good for the brain.

How do we create abundance in our lives? In this week’s Mindset Monday episode, we’re going to talk about how to expand your money consciousness.

1) Put a hundred dollar bill in your wallet.

It’s all about tapping into our inner consciousness. Put a hundred dollar bill in your wallet and do your usual routines. When you see things that you think you can buy with your hundred dollar, imagine that you’re actually buying it. But keep that in your mind. Just imagine the thought that you’re actually doing it.

The more you spend on your mind, the more you feel that you have. And it’s the feeling of having that attracts more into your life.

2) Keep a note in your shower of what you wanna create.

What exactly is your goal? When you know what you want, you will never lose track. You have to constantly remind yourself of what you want so that you can easily identify if the things that you do are still in line with your purpose. And the next thing you know, the only thing that separates you and your goal is determination.

3) Realizing your own uniqueness.

We all have our own unique qualities. But we have to figure out what we’re good at, and what we can utilise to use for our own advantage. You can think about the experiences that you have built over the years, the life skills that you have acquired, and many other things. And when you know what you have, you know where to begin.

4) Leave piles of money in different areas of your house.

It’s all about reprogramming your subconscious mind to turn an imagination into something tangible for you. When you leave piles of money in different areas of your house, you get acquainted to your goal. You attract that thing subconsciously. And in your mind, you know that you will chase opportunities to attract them more into your life.

5) Give more.

Giving more is a key element to the expansion of your money mindset. It’s not always about getting more and more. It’s also about giving back, in whatever form you find is most appropriate. It can be in the form of charity, advice, community volunteering, etc. When you imbibe this mindset within you, you will start taking the idea of giving back as a positive reinforcement that attracts more of that wealth. With that in your scope, you will surely prosper.

Expanding your money mindset is an important step towards prosperity. It’s not always about money. It’s also about getting the right attitude towards wealth.

With the plethora of diets and meal protocols bum-rushing the market, and the multitudes of “health” products swooping in to satisfy each and every new trend, how do you decide which plan is right for you? While there are many contradictory claims, the important thing I hope we all agree on is this: The Standard American Diet doesn’t benefit anyone.

So here are 3 healthy swaps to the SAD diet that I recommend everybody consider trying:

1. Processed Sugar - Sugar has been linked to inflammation, lowered immune system, diabetes, obesity, and even heart disease. Based on new research, a sweet tooth can be quite dangerous in the long run.Try some honey in your tea instead of coffee and sugar. Swap the ice cream with some blended up frozen bananas and berries. If you absolutely must have cookies, pies or other desserts, cook them yourself and swap the processed sugar with some agave nectar or honey.

2. Dairy - In my opinion, dairy is not necessary, especially the dairy from cows injected with steroids, hormones, and antibiotics. If you appreciate the benefits of a calcium-rich beverage, but can’t handle the indigestion or mucous-like side effects of cows milk, you can give goat’s milk a try. If you need a creamy drink for your smoothies or other recipes, try coconut or almond milk. Check the ingredients to avoid carrageenan.

3. Wheat - Removing gluten from my diet actually proved very beneficial. Yes, that includes beer and whiskey. It wasn’t easy, but after a couple weeks I noticed my stomach having less bloating and indigestion. My head felt more clear, and I had much better sleep. If you really think about it, in terms of micronutrients, wheat doesn’t have NEARLY as many vitamins or minerals as vegetables and fruits. Beans, veggies and fruits also have more fiber than wheat. If you’re a bodybuilder, athlete, or you exercise quite a bit, you’ll probably need some kind of grain for those extra calories. In that case, my favorite gluten free grains are quinoa, and brown and white rice. (Some sourdough breads are low in gluten, depending on the fermentation process.)

3 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 tbsp Lime juice
1 tsp minced Garlic
1/4th tsp Cumin
1/4th tsp Black Pepper

Just mix everything properly and add to your favorite vegetable salad.
